The Australian Government’s $42 billion Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan (the Plan) is specifically designed to create and protect jobs in Australia during this period of economic downturn.
The built infrastructure component of the Plan, including direct allocations to State Governments for infrastructure projects, will be invested in the areas of schools, social housing and road safety.
In Queensland, the Plan is driven by a State Coordinator who is supported by a Deputy State Coordinator and two directors working across six government agencies. The following management structure demonstrates the process of responsibility in Queensland:

The Queensland’s allocation under the Plan is anticipated to be around $4 billion, all of which will be delivered by the private sector.
Projects will be rolled out across Queensland over the next three years and will offer suppliers, contractors and consultants the opportunity to participate in the Plan’s delivery.
As the Plan is focussed on schools and social housing, most projects will be $3 million in value or less. However projects may be bundled to streamline delivery within and across regions.
Tenders being called and awarded contracts will be available for viewing to notify suppliers and sub-contractors of work opportunities with contractors. View Tenders
As the Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for procurement, all contractors and consultants who tender for school projects and a portion of the social housing program will need to be prequalified or registered with DPW.

Other opportunities exist for contractors and consultants within the private school sector. A funding package has been allocated by the Australian Government for building works in private schools.
“Where a school is a non-government school, that school must be a Block Grant Authority Participant (ie a school in respect of which the Minister has determined a BGA under the Schools Assistance Act 2008)”
To pursue this work, contractors and consultants need to make direct contact with the non-government schools.
